Fiskaaling participated in the annual Researchers' Night in Tórshavn on Friday, September 22. The event is a popular science festival in the Faroe Islands and is part of the European Researchers' Night held in September across Europe. The goal of the event is to spark interest in research and scientific work. At the event, Fiskaaling had a booth showcasing various small living organisms found in the sea. Many guests visited Fiskaaling's stand and took their time to explore the exhibits.
Researchers from Fiskaaling also gave presentations about current research projects.
Tróndur Kragesteen shared his experiences with a sea lice model that was developed at Fiskaaling.
Kirstin Eliasen informed the audience about the Faroese sea trout studies and explained the significance of this research.
Francois Naudé is currently pursuing an MSc in Applied Mathematics at Stellenbosch University in South Africa. He participated in a competition where researchers had 150 seconds to explain the content of a research poster. In the past two weeks, he has been at Fiskaaling conducting a particle model simulation for his master's thesis. Gunnvør á Norði, a researcher at Fiskaaling, is his supervisor. The goal of the modeling is to investigate how sediment from salmon farming sinks. He presented this in his presentation.
His stay in the Faroe Islands is part of the EU Horizon 2020 project AquaVitae, in which Fiskaaling is involved.
